10 million is an impressive number, take that Xbox, with your 5 million consoles shipped! Today at Gamescom Sony revealed this huge 10 million unit milestone for its Playstation 4. Shortly after Sony sent out a press release stating that this figure accounts for worldwide sales as of August 10th, and represents the “fastest and strongest” growth in PlayStation hardware sales in Sony’s history.
“The responses we have received for the PS4 system’s unique gameplay experiences powered by the network, along with its vast game portfolio has been phenomenal, and I am absolutely delighted that PS4 was able to reach this commemorative milestone in less than 9 months … We’re so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation gamers worldwide, and we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and services in the months ahead.” – SCE CEO Andrew House
Well said Mr. House. In addition to this huge milestone, Sony has also sold a combined 30 million copies of physical and downloaded PS4 games as of August 10th! Microsoft needs to catch up now, they best get to buying out more exclusive rights to our favorite video game IP’s.
